Governor Scott Freezes Sunrail
CENTRAL FLORIDA (WOFL FOX 35) – It’s the plan that’s supposed to get us on the right track to job creation and transportation. That’s why officials like Congresswoman Corrine Brown, (D-Florida) have spent years supporting Sunrail.
Its a 61 mile commuter rail that will be built from Volusia County to Osceola County.
“I know that there may be some challenges, but the key is that the business community elected officials who are working together to move our state forward,” Brown.
But since Governor Rick Scott froze $235 million in four different Sunrail contracts, Congresswomen Brown is now planning to contact him to make sure there are no delays.
“What are you going to say to him when you contact him,” Valerie Boey asked? “Lets work together,” she said.
State Department of Transportation Secretary Noreanne Downs isn’t worried. “I know they’re under review, I personally haven’t heard they were placed on hold,” Downs said.
She says she expected the Governor to review everything when he took office and now she is trying to answer all his questions.
“The process is, they’re going over all projects to make sure that they’re good and Sunrail’s a big project. I’m still very positive, I think we should get that very soon,” Downs said.
Congressman John Mica, (R-Florida) also expected the Governor to review any contract worth more than $1 million dollars when he took office.
“I applaud him for reviewing this and getting a better deal for the taxpayers if we can,” Mica said.
Meanwhile Rep. Brown believes everything will continue as planned.
“I don’t see the project delayed I am definitely thinking about moving forward,” Brown said.
Orlando Mayor, Buddy Dyer’s office says, they’ve had bumps along the way, but will continue to move forward with the plan, creating 70,000 jobs with Sunrail.
